Vauxhall Vivaro Key Replacement Leeds and What It Costs
A Vauxhall Vivaro key costs from £110 in Leeds with no VAT, cut and coded at the van. A spare taken while a working key is present starts at £65, and a van with every key gone starts at £160. A main dealer prices the same key at £200 to £350 before VAT.
Search for a Vivaro key and most of what comes back is a five pound plastic case or a seventeen pound blank. Both are real products and neither is a key. A case swap fixes a broken shell and does nothing whatsoever for a dead one. Telling those two apart is worth doing before spending anything.
There is also a question the year of the van answers, because the Vivaro has not been the same vehicle underneath for the whole of its life. That comes first, because it changes everything after it.

What a Vivaro Key Costs
Six jobs cover almost every Vivaro call in Leeds and only two of them are a new key. Each figure is fixed from the registration on the phone, carries no VAT and includes travel to the van.
The top three rows are where most Vivaro problems actually land, and all three sit under £80. A van that has stopped answering a perfectly good key is a resync at £55, not a replacement at £110, and it is worth asking which one you are being quoted for.
Guides quoting £180 to £300 for a Vivaro key are averaging lost key jobs together with spares, and pricing a dealer supplied key with VAT on top. Both parts of that are avoidable. A spare cut while the original still works is the cheapest key this van will ever need.
The Vivaro Is Three Different Vans
The badge has stayed the same and the vehicle underneath has changed twice, which means the key, the blade and the programming route all depend on the year. A 2010 Vivaro and a 2021 Vivaro have almost nothing in common at the lock.
Built on a Renault design and carrying that key system, with a two or three button remote and a chipped blade. These are the most common Vivaros still working in Leeds.
Still the same Renault underpinnings and the same family of key, with a dedicated van blade profile that an ordinary key machine does not carry.
A different platform entirely, sharing its key with a different group of vans. Nothing about the earlier key carries over, including the blade.
Three different answers sit behind the same badge. Giving the registration fixes the price and the method before anybody sets off, rather than on arrival.
This is why a quote given over the phone without a registration is worthless on this van in particular. It is also why blanks bought online so often turn out to be the wrong profile, because the listing says Vivaro and the van it fits is not the one on your drive. The wider Vauxhall key service covers every generation across the range.
When a Five Pound Fob Case Is the Right Answer
A case swap genuinely fixes two of the four things that go wrong with a Vivaro key, and genuinely fixes neither of the other two. The test is whether the van still responds to the key at all.
A case swap is exactly right. The board, chip and battery contacts move across into the new shell and the van never knows the difference. Five pounds and twenty minutes.
Also a case job on this van, because the rubber membrane comes as part of the shell. The electronics are untouched, so nothing needs coding again.
A new case will not help. Either the board has failed, the key has lost its pairing, or the van is not reading it. All three need equipment rather than a shell.
A shell and a blank are useless here. There is nothing to transfer into them, so the key has to be made and coded from the van itself.
Vivaro keys tend to wear rather than fail outright, which is exactly why the cheap route works so often on this van. Switches on these fobs are large and last well, blades wear before they break, and the shell takes the punishment of living in a work pocket. Where the electronics are alive, a case and twenty minutes is the whole repair and nobody needs calling.
Stand next to the van and press unlock. If the indicators flash, the doors move or anything at all happens, the board is alive and a case will help. If nothing happens with a known good battery fitted, the shell is not the problem and a new one changes nothing.
What Happens When Every Key Is Gone
Four steps at the roadside and the van does not move. The part most people expect to wait for is the part that does not apply.
Vauxhall will sell a Car Pass carrying the key numbers and immobiliser codes for around £30 with a three day wait. The security code is read off the van instead, so that wait never happens.
The V5C and photo identification in the same name. On a fleet or leased Vivaro that paperwork usually sits in an office, and chasing it is the real delay on these jobs.
Picked or decoded rather than forced. No drilling, no glass and no marks on a signwritten panel.
Every previously known key stops at the moment the new one starts, so a key lost on a site cannot be used on the van later.
A great deal of advice about Vauxhall keys still tells people to order the security code before anything can be done. The code exists and it can be bought, and it is simply not needed when the equipment reads what it needs from the van. That is the difference between a key today and a key next week.
The Third Button and the Load Area
The third button on a Vivaro key unlocks the load area on its own, which is the single thing that makes a van key different from a car key. Lock and unlock work the cab, and the extra button releases the rear or side doors without opening the front.
That function has to be coded into a replacement rather than appearing on its own, and it is where cheaply supplied keys most often fall short. A two button key programmed onto a three button van will start it and lock the cab, and it will leave the back doors to be opened with the blade every time. On a van carrying tools that is a daily annoyance rather than a one off.
Deadlocks and slam locks fitted to the rear doors are checked in the same visit. The van key replacement service covers the same ground across the other common commercial vehicles.
A Van Off the Road
A Vivaro key is between £55 and £160, and a day of the van standing still is usually worth more than the top of that range. That is the figure worth deciding on rather than the price of the key.
Across every Leeds postcode, and the same on an evening or a weekend. A Vivaro found dead on Sunday night is the one that costs Monday.
Forty minutes with a working key present, up to an hour where every key is gone and the code has to be taken from the van.
The van stays on the drive, the site or the yard. Recovering a long wheelbase van is a cost and a delay before a key is even discussed.
Cab doors, load area, ignition and each button on the remote, with you standing there. A key that starts the van and will not open the back is not finished.
Evenings, weekends and bank holidays are covered at the same price, because the alternative is a van that cannot work on the next trading day. The timing changes the inconvenience and it does not change the figure.
