A smart car key has two parts that must both match the car. The blade opens the locks and the transponder chip in the head is registered to the immobiliser. The first fortwo, the 450 from 1998 to 2007, and the roadster use an early transponder key, with the remote as a separate part on some cars. The forfour of 2004 to 2006 was built alongside the Mitsubishi Colt and uses a Mitsubishi style ID46 key. Chip keys like these are handled by our transponder key programming service, usually in well under an hour.
The fortwo 451, 2007 to 2014, uses a Philips ID46 remote key registered to the car through its control module. It is the most common older smart in Leeds, and when every 451 key is lost the new key is coded after the module data is read, which is why that job is priced before we travel.
